Review and Inspiration

Having finished Frozen River by Ariel Lawhorn is a historical fiction mystery novel about Martha Ballard, a legendary 18th century midwife who challenged the legal system, risking her life, to pursue justice. Taking place in Hallowell, Maine, Martha discovers a body frozen in the Kennebec River. The story has content warnings of violence, sexual assault and death. "The days are long, but the years are short. Memory is a wicked thing that warps and twists".The author is an amazing storyteller who brings to life the incredible journey of a woman, whose diary is discovered, and who is separated from the law while uncovering a murder plot. Ariel Lawhorn is a critically acclaimed, New York Times best selling author.

While reading Frozen River, we visited @thelostkitchen online and watched the documentary series "The Lost Kichen" in Freedom, Maine, a 44 minute drive from Hallowell. We loved the concept of a women run establishment, the leagacy Erin French has created and the beauty of the food presentation and the expression of appreciation and love of food by this amazing group of Farm to Table Artisans. The dinning is a lottery drawn from sent in post cards and there is a call to action from our group to send a few in. The Lost Kitchen's play list is available on Spotify and include LostKitchen-Motion and Lost Kitchen-Joy. It seems that one could journey from Freedom, Maine to Hallowell, Maine to explore the Frozen River while enjoying the gorgeousness of Maine, where the motto is, The Way Life Should Be. Sounds like a great way to keep it Kindred.
